When it comes to increasing visibility on search engine results pages, it can sometimes feel like you hear the same tired tactics over and over. Just use the keywords you need to rank for and then hope and pray they drive more traffic.
But how do you add keywords in a meaningful way? How do you know which ones to choose? And how do you rank on Page 1 of Google?
Fortunately, a “new” keyword optimization method optimizes keywords in a much more practical and scalable way: the keyword multiplier technique.
We put “new” in quotations because even though the keyword multiplier technique is gaining popularity now, it’s something we’ve been doing for quite a while. And now that everyone is in on the secret, we’re going to show you how to do it!
How It Works
When most businesses talk about how to improve SEO rankings, they vie to rank for the most competitive, high-search volume terms. While ranking for those keywords is a worthy goal, it’s not typically a good starting point.
The keyword multiplier technique capitalizes on keywords your brand already ranks for and then calculatedly boosts and grows them. This allows the page to expand organically and “multiply” your rankings until you reach the point where you have built enough authority to rank for your goal terms.
We’ll explain how to improve your SEO rankings with this keyword multiplier technique in a handful of simple steps.
1. Use Google Search Console to check whether a page from your website is already ranking highly.
Head over to the performance report and select the URL of that page.
Click on the URL and select “Queries” to see the ranking keywords associated with that URL.
This will give you analytics that show the word, the number of impressions, the click-through rate, and how many clicks you’re getting.
2. Find the words ranking well from that list of terms but not in the first 3-5 positions.
We call these striking distance keywords. They are the low-hanging fruit you can tackle first.
Analyze your striking distance keywords and look for high-impression keywords that receive some clicks.
3. Optimize your page for the striking distance terms you’re now looking for.
Include these terms in your on-page SEO strategy, working them strategically into your content, title tags, internal links, etc.
4. Track these pages using Google Analytics through a shortcut and watch them grow from month to month.
By segregating pages in your reports, you will have a clearer picture of what techniques are working well so you can further develop your SEO strategy.
5. Rinse and repeat.
This is a multiplication process that can be done frequently. Do it with every page on your website. Continually optimize the pages, keep them updated, and add new keywords regularly. When you add new pages to your site, you can preemptively use your knowledge of keywords to add more critical ones.
Why It Works
The keyword multiplier technique allows you to see what’s working on your website currently and expand on it. And this technique is scalable. Once you understand which terms are most effective, it will assist you in creating more content that will be equally, if not more, successful on your site.
Begin building your keyword foundation, and soon you’ll be able to optimize for more competitive terms. Your goal to improve first-page SEO rankings doesn’t seem so elusive now, does it?
